Opinions are a Dangerous thing: Art StylesThis isn't about narking on anyone no, infact this is just my own muses really! You could say this is a journal for ENCOURAGEMENT! *SHINES*
I find sticking to one style restrictive if you are a beginning/moderate artist! (even professionals I might say! though I can't speak for everyone)
Having a distinctive look on how your art is done and produced is understandable and its a desire to appear unique to the point some one can just SEE your work and instantly think 'Oh! that's Ten-days!' or something along the line. However, when you are trying to find who you are and what kind of art you are to produce, I recommend trying, well, a lot of different things! Different styles, mixing styles, different colouring techinque, brushes, tools, shading. Don't feel dependant on what you are already doing and don't feel pressured by people just for trying new things!
Push out of your comfort zone. Can't draw hands? don't avoid it! draw the heck out of them! (how else are you going to learn?)

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.

If you think about how much time is put into one piece, technically it isn't. For example, I sell chibis for $20. I spend about 10 hours per chibi, so I'm only getting paid $2 an hour for work. Unfortunately, no one really takes art seriously.

I agree, it's so expensive it gets to a ridiculous point. I know that it takes time and effort, but... 250 dollars? Some people work 8 hours+ every single day and get just a little more than that at the end of one whole month, and I'm not talking about informal, non-regulated jobs.

Mhm, but you need some electrical gear and you need the buissnes licence of any program, and they aren't cheap so far.

When you draw for yourself (which is the case), you've got to have said electrical gear and business license for the painting program you're using, it's not like you're buying them to use exclusively on commissions.
